Utah Yogis Applaud Gov. Herbert’s Resolution for State Yoga Day Wednesday Sept. 25th:
Invite Community to Join in Celebration on Capitol Steps

Sept. 18, 2013 (Salt Lake City, Utah) -- We Are Yoga SLC (WAY Yoga Studio) and the larger Utah Yoga collective applauded Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert (September 16, 2013) as he signed a state-wide resolution officially declaring September 25 “State Yoga Day,” giving Utah it’s own unique celebratory date during “National Yoga Month” (a national observance the month of September designated by the Department of Health & Human Services).

Herbert recognized and praised the many benefits of yoga in the resolution stating that: “yoga helps improve the spiritual, mental, and physical wellness of the individuals who practice this ancient Indian system of philosophy and physical exercise.”
Jami Larson, owner-director of We Are Yoga SLC Yoga Studio (driving studio force behind State Yoga Day), commended the Governor on his decision: “This day –and this celebration— is an unprecedented collaboration encouraging the unification of the yoga community and recognizes the value of the yoga in our lives, our country and in our state. We applaud the Governor for taking a proactive approach to health, wellness and a unified community as the principles that unite us as a State, are the principles and values that yoga represents.”

Along those lines, the resolution touches on the importance of peace by “attaining both individual and societal harmony” and says that the culture and values of yoga “emphasize the importance of a balanced lifestyle, service, knowledge, as well as social, environmental, and economic awareness.”

To kick off and celebrate the first-annual State Yoga Day, studios, yogi's and the yoga curious alike, across the state will join We Are Yoga SLC in a special event “We Are Yoga Elevated” Wednesday, Sept 25, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on the South-facing steps of the State Capitol Building. In addition to WAY, participating sponsoring studios include Avenues Yoga, Park City Yoga Studio, Core Power Yoga, Infusion Yoga and Pilates, and Mountain Yoga.

The event, sponsored by Athleta, Hugger Mugger and meSheeky includes a free 60-minute accessible to all levels yoga class at 6:15 on the steps of the Utah State Capitol with remarks beforehand at 6:00pm and give-aways from sponsors and local businesses following the class.

September 5, 2013 (Salt Lake City, UT) -- “We Are Yoga” is pleased to announce "WE ARE YOGA ELEVATED," a two-hour celebration for State Yoga Day Wednesday, Sept. 25. The event celebrates Utah’s diverse yoga community and is held at Utah’s State Capitol in conjunction with National Yoga Month – first designated in 2008 by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

Official festivities run from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, and include a special 75 minute yoga class on the South facing steps of the capitol building at 6:15pm, followed by give-aways, special guest appearances and speakers. WE ARE YOGA ELEVATED is free and open to the public.

“What an incredible way to recognize and celebrate National Yoga Month,” Jami Larson, owner-director of We Are Yoga Studio (WAY) explained. “At WAY, we’re constantly generating ways to raise awareness of the yoga culture in Utah and bring unique and positive events to the community. We love to offer yoga in an elevated way. Utah overflows with such a diverse and perfect climate for our thriving yoga community. Utah is life elevated, and We Are Yoga elevated in this state. I knew this day was something we had to do to recognize that symbiosis.”
WE ARE YOGA ELEVATED invites a general and diverse audience of participants from all over the state of Utah; Yoga teachers, students, government officials, the yoga curious, families, children, friends of the community are all welcome to join in.

The yoga class will be led by five Master Yoga Teachers including We Are Yoga’s own Larson, who promises an incredible and accessible class for all levels of participation. Larson says: “Yoga Elevated will be an experience unprecedented in Utah yoga culture and will be accessible for everyone --what one might expect at a ‘traditional’ yoga class. And that’s all the more reason seasoned yogis and those new to the practice on-and-off the mat are welcome. We are yoga elevated and this is an opportunity to share in the experience of yoga which encourages living life elevated.”

Yoga has been a part of the health and wellness industry in Utah for over a decade and has catapulted in popularity because of all the far-reaching benefits for the mind, body and the soul. Yoga is recognized nationally and worldwide for it’s many health benefits, both physical and mental.
